Oak Cliff Special: Clone of John Mayer's Dumble SSS built by founders of Two Rock

As you know The Fender Reissue Shop has owned several high profile John Mayer guitars and amps over the years (stage played and JM owned masterbuilt prototype signature strat JM002, over 10 masterbuilt relic Blk1 Strats, a handful of the 25 Martin 000-45SC acoustics, 5 JM Two Rock Signature amps).  We are the most excited about what we are about to show you!  This has got to be the rarest and most sought after amp tone for John Mayer fans.

Oak Cliff Special Amp.  Clone of John Mayer's Dumble SSS.  Built by Bill Krinard (founder of Two Rock and John Mayer's personal amp tech).

This is an amp that has been whispered about for years by fans of John Mayer's great tone.  A mythical amp that precious few people knew about or have had a chance to play.

Don't bother looking for specs on Two Rock's website because this is from a secret project commissioned by John Mayer. He tasked Bill Krinard (Mayer's personal amp technician and builder) and Joe Mloganoski (Two Rock's other founder) to clone his Dumble Steel String Singer #2.  As aficionados know, along with his 2 Two Rock Custom Signature, the Dumble SSS #2 has been an integral part of John Mayer's sound. It has traveled the world with John and been featured on several albums.

John's directive to the guys at Two Rock (Bill and Joe) was to create a dead accurate clone of his Dumble that was separate from the standard lineup of Two Rock amps. The resulting amps were christened the Oak Cliff Special (OCS) in honor of Stevie Ray Vaughan's hometown.  It is an accurate copy in every way and reflects John and Two Rock's dedication to great tone.  Bill Krinard had Mayer's SSS #2 for over 3 months in order to make this accurate of a clone.

There were originally 3 clones made for this project - one for John, one for Bill Krinard and one for Joe Mloganoski. This amp used to belong to Joe. Not only is it an exact internal clone of Mayer's Dumble SSS #2, but the Oak Cliff Specials were voiced and a/b tuned back to back to Mayer's SSS.

If you have watched the Blk1 video that was put out by Fender when the Custom Shop released their run of 83 masterbuilt guitars, you can see that John is playing through his Oak Cliff Special during the recording of Battle Studies. It is visible over his shoulder, on the floor and when he noodles around demonstrating the Custom Shop version of the Blk1. The layout of the amp and logo are unmistakable. If you follow Tomo Fujita on Facebook you have probably seen several posts where he recorded with John's OCS.

The OCS is the holy grail of John Mayer amps. There are over 25 of the standard Two Rock John Mayer Signature amps, and those regularly sell for well over $15,000.  There are only a handful of the Oak Cliff Specials. In addition, these OCS heads are hand made by Bill Krinard, using John Mayer's SSS #2 as a template. As can be expected of a clone of a Dumble  SSS this amp has an incredible amount of headroom and stays sparklingly clean even while fully cranked.

Specs;

-Drop dead exact copy of Mayers SSS, commissioned by Mayer himself.

-100 watts.  6L6 power tubes.

-6 position hi/low pass filter switch

-Hand built by Mayer's amp tech Bill Krinard, co-founder of Two Rock.

-Previously owned by Joe Mloganoski, c0-founder of Two Rock.

-Larger Dumble spec headshell.

This has to be one of the most significant pieces of John Mayer gear to be made available to the public.
